The Anderson’s year in a
nutshell:
January
*Jeff and Shannon spent a
weekend in Boulder without kids. They
ate at a very fancy restaurant thanks to a gift card Shannon won for a “best
dessert” contest.
*Siahna (who was identified
with developmental delays at 6 months) had her annual review to determine her
progress. Although, she was still behind
in most areas, she showed considerable growth.
*Case started a new preschool
and quickly fell in love with his new school.
February
*The family spent a weekend
in the mountains and Case & Jeff went tubing at Copper mountain (2nd
year in a row).
*Shannon made reservations at
a hotel for above weekend in the mountains only to show up to the hotel to discover
she had never actually made the reservations!
So, the weekend trip turned into a day trip!
*Jeff & Shannon attended
their first parent/teacher conferences as parents and were pleased to hear that
Case was doing splendidly.
*Jeff & Shannon went
Contra Dancing for the 1st time.
Best.Time.Ever.
*Case was registered for KG.
March
*Shannon & Case flew to
Minnesota for a long weekend to visit friends.
Case went to the Mall of America for the 1st time. (This trip
may become an annual trip for mother & son).
*The three cousins from NE
visited for a week and Shannon decided she is not cut out to be a mother of 5!
April
*Case attended his 1st
Rockies game with Jeff.
May
*Shannon had to back out of
her 3rd half marathon due to a knee injury. And don’t be fooled, she really wasn’t that
disappointed!
*Jeff attended a weekend
retreat with our church staff (he’s the Deacon of Technology)
*The family went camping in
the mountains.
*Siahna started walking!!!!
June
*Siahna turned 2!
*Friends from Seattle visited
(and our kids became instant friends).
*Friends from Minnesota
visited.
*Case turned 5!
*Case attended VBS.
*We stood at the finish line
of the MS150 bike race to cheer on Shannon’s brother & sister who rode 150
miles in two days. Remember, that knee
injury? This is Shannon’s excuse for not
biking as well. Comes in handy!
*Case was
unregistered for KG and it was decided he’d do another year of preschool.
July
*Spent a week
camping with Shannon’s family. Took Case
Four Wheeling through backcountry CO.
BEAUTIFUL!
August
*The family went
to Breckenridge for a weekend and took the kids horseback riding for the first
time. Siahna fell in love with horses.
*Jeff &
Shannon celebrated 7 years of marriage.
September
*Siahna took up
a gym class and does well keeping up with her peers.
*Case started
“Explorers” – a preschool class designed for kids old enough to be in KG but
wait a year. He’s doing very well, has
made a lot of friends and mom & dad are glad they waited a year for KG to
build his skills and give him extra confidence.
October
*Siahna saw a
cardiologist due to a heart murmur and was told “it was no big deal.”
*Siahna was a
lion for Halloween and Case was a snake.
Siahna decided that knocking on people’s doors and getting candy was a
pretty cool thing.
November
*Shannon &
Jeff stood before a judge to add a 2nd middle name for Case who is
now officially named Case William Dean (instead of Case William).
*Shannon &
Jeff went to a shooting range. It was
not as fun as Shannon thought it would be as she jumped every time a gun went
off!
*Siahna ended
two years of physical therapy and the family was sad to say good-bye to the
therapist. She will now be starting
occupational therapy until she turns three.
December
*Case and 12 of
his friends were at our house for an ornament exchange party.
*Siahna said her
first two real words – “hot” and “choo-choo”.
Her speech therapist was almost as happy as mom and dad were!
These are just a
few of our highlights from the year.
For those of you
who don’t know, Siahna was “diagnosed” with developmental delays when she was
six months old. She has been receiving
physical, occupational & speech therapy services through the Littleton
Public Schools since that time. After
numerous visits to Children’s Hospital meeting with genetic specialists,
movement specialists, and many other “specialists”, we said our good-bye’s to
Children’s as no one could find any reason for the delays. We decided she had had enough testing, was
making progress (although she is behind in development of other kids her age),
and no matter what (diagnosis or not) she is fearfully and wonderfully made and
that’s all that matters to us. We do
covet your prayers for her continued progress and for all the decisions we make
concerning her.
We hope and pray
that your 2013 is filled with blessings and love.
