I Did It

How many of you can say that you've hiked 3,000 and some feet to the top of a mountain? Well, I can now add my name to the list of people who have climbed a 14'er here in CO. Those of you not from around here that means that we climbed a mountain that is 14,000+ feet. The air in thin, the trail is rocky, you can only walk about 20 feet before you have to stop and rest, hours and hours and strain on your body. Sounds fun, huh?

Jeff, Shiloh & I went with 3 other friends yesterday and climbed Gray's Peak. We left our house at 5:30am and arrived at the mountain shortly after 7am. After getting everything adjusted we took off around 7:40. It's pretty easy climbing for the first 30 min. or so and then everything changes. It gets rocky, it's very steep and the air gets really thin the higher you go. And since it's the closest 14'er to Denver, there were a ton of people on the mountain passing or being passed.

Four hours later, we made it to the top. What a view.I'm so glad I did it and got to put my name in the log book at the top of the mountain.
However, I have to say I probably won't do it again. At least not until the memory of how hard it was wears off. I don't think my body has ever been under so much strain! I'd rather give birth - they have drugs for that!

Going down was probably harder on the body than going up. It took 2 hours to get down. It was steep, it was rocky, I was a little altitude sick, my feet killed from all the rocks and all I wanted to do was lay down and be done.

But, we made it and it feels good knowing I could do it.
