Keeping Up

Those of you who know me well know that I am a bit of a "clean freak." I'm a wreck when my nephews leave because things are no longer in their proper place. Don't get me wrong, I love my nephews dearly and I encourage their messes (well, not the one where Kyler turns on the Brita water container and just watches it run all over the kitchen floor!). But, I know that when they leave it is time to clean the floors that got dusty from their dirty feet, wash the sheets, pick up toys that got left out, etc.

Keeping up with a one year old is not an easy task either. Case loves to pull the tupperware out of the cupboard, throw his food on the floor when he doesn't want it, and his all time favorite is to run his dirty hands through his hair when he's eating - and of course, he's just taken a bath! This are the times when I have little breakdowns - all that effort of bathing & picking up gone to waste. The latest fiasco happened today at lunch when I gave Case his spoon and bowl of chocolate pudding to finish on his own. I turned my back for a minute and when I came back, he had pudding in his hair (yes, he took a bath just this morning), in his ears, up his nose, all over the highchair, down his arms...you get the point. There wasn't even that much pudding left!

What I'm trying to learn now is to not sweat the small stuff. Boys will be boys. Let 'em play, let 'em get dirty. The floor can wait, but they'll only be this age once! And, it's time to hire a housekeeper! Seriously!
