So, this past weekend Jeff & I packed up and went back to NE. We took my two nephews, 2 & 4, so they could stay at grandma's for the week. So, we're driving through no man's land in eastern Colorado - if you've been out there you know there are no exits for miles and absolutely nothing to look at - and it's pouring rain. All of a sudden, Jeff asked me to call Collin my brother (we had his car to fit 3 carseats) and ask him if his engine light frequently comes on. Then we noticed that the temperature gauge was pointing at the hottest level. Lights were flashing on the dash. We lost a little bit of power. I called Collin only to learn that this has never happened before. I started to wonder what we would do when we got stranded with three little boys, in the middle of eastern CO in the pouring rain. Jeff wouldn't leave me in the car with the boys, would he? And he wouldn't be able to walk to the next exit b/c it could be miles and miles away. And what if he hitch hiked and got abducted or worse. It just couldn't happen.
We slowed way down and about 10 miles later made it to an exit where there was one gas station and nothing else. We stopped and just as Jeff had suspected - it was the serpentine belt. It had gotten wet from the rain and was slipping which made the engine lose power. We let it dry off, had a nice little break for all of the boys, and got back on the road. We had no further problems after that. Thank the good Lord!
We made it to Kearney around midnight, dropped off the nephews and then headed to Jeff's mom where Case decided he wasn't tired and would stay up until 2am and then get up at 7am. I was rather crabby that day. We had a birthday brunch with my family and then headed on to Omaha where I got to visit my friend Laura and some of Jeff's family. Laura has a little boy who is 3 months older than Case and about 3 times bigger. And oh did he love Case. He practically crushed him trying to give him hugs and kisses. :)
We made it home Sunday evening. And just think, we get to do it all over again this weekend as we're going home to celebrate my grandparents 60th anniversary!
You didn't tell me about this! Rude. Glad everything turned out. That could have been potentially bad!
ReplyDeleteWhat a crisis averted! Too bad you had to spend your b-day traveling. Hope it was good even though!
